Does this work with local and on-premises files?
Yes. You work in your existing Excel file using the Airrange add-in. The workbook can stay on your device, on a network drive or in your on-premises environment. Only the selected area is published for browser access.
Do recipients need Excel or the add-in?
No. The file owner uses the Excel add-in. Recipients open the shared view in a browser, without installing Excel or the add-in and without an Excel license.
Can recipients overwrite my formulas?
You define which cells are editable. Keep formula cells outside those input areas and leave formula editing disabled. Recipients can then change the intended inputs while formulas remain read-only. Changes to the original workbook are only applied when you merge them.
Which data should I include in the shared area?
Include only the data recipients need. Keep sensitive information and confidential calculation logic outside the selected area. Hiding a row, column or formula in the browser view changes its presentation; it is not the same as excluding it from the published data.
Does a response immediately change the original file?
No. Responses arrive in the add-in for review. Compare old and new values, merge individual changes or accept them together. You can undo accepted changes. When the source file changes, publish an updated version of the shared area when you are ready.
Can I make the view easier to understand?
Yes. The web wizard lets you define input areas, highlight editable cells, adjust headers and gridlines, and add explanatory text above and below the shared area. Printing and export can also be configured.
